Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?

If the quotation “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” implies there are no standards in Aesthetics then it has to be wrong.

Amongst those who thoroughly study artistic endeavors, beauty, design, Antiques or any particular field of Aesthetics there is a rough consensus of opinion of what’s good, what’s mediocre, and what’s bad. These studies are subjective and there can be wide differences, never the less, there are rights and wrongs, and unless we admit this we will never make the effort to study further and grow culturally. It is a life long study. There are very knowledgeable people, and there are experts, and yet it is impossible to know it all.

Don’t be too sure of your judgments if they are not backed up by far reaching exposure to many varied examples.
